The History of Juneteenth

Did you know...

Juneteenth is a holiday commemorating the emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the United States. On June 19, 1865, about two months after the Confederate general Robert E. Lee surrendered, Union general Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved African Americans of their freedom. In 2021, a bill was signed making Juneteenth the 11th federal holiday in the US.

We hope everyone has a great day celebrating!
