The STAR Method

Last week we asked our community on LinkedIn “How many of you feel nervous and disorganized when prepping for an interview?” Surprisingly, 80% answered “I do” or "Sometimes."

To help our candidates and clients be successful, we use the STAR Method!

What is the STAR Method?

A structured way of responding to an interview question by sharing the specific Situation, Task, Action, and Result of the story you are telling.

SITUATION: Paint a picture for the interviewer - describe the overall project or experience at a high level.

TASK: What was the goal you were working toward - what did you specifically need to accomplish?

ACTION: What steps did you take and what was your contribution? Keep the focus on YOU - be specific and give details!

RESULT: What were the outcomes of your actions, both positive and negative. Highlight what you learned, and don’t be shy about taking credit!

Interviewers want to hear about your personal accomplishments, contributions, and learnings! When preparing, review the job description and formulate examples from your experience.

Our candidates love us because we take the time to coach you toward success! If you’re in the market, check out our Careers page!
